Assess your life with the “Life on sale” tool. (part.2)
What if you could use the metaphor ‘life on sale” as a powerful tool to measure where are you now?
Of course we are using a metaphor right now, but that sign by that restaurant really made me change the perspective. Not only from the first side of the story…do you remember it? If you did not read the first part, please go and check it out. I will summarize it for you: we were visualizing a change of perspective tool: instead of going on looking at what we have in our plate over and over again doing the same mistakes, acting in the same way, thinking in the same way, obtaining, of course, the same results, we were imagining things (your plate) managed perfectly, or the way we wish it could be managed, by another person (a stranger, someone that we aim to be, our future self, our main role model, for ex) and then acting accordingly and change what we did not like, adjust something and pretend that all these changes came from the ‘new manager’ new way of thinking through our life.
I know it seems kind of weird, but stepping outside our routine and daily activities and take a look at our life from a distant place can really help us prioritize, get better results and do things differently…or could make us understand that our life is not as bad as we thought it was or that it is a complite mess and it is better to get into work to improve it!
Sometimes instead of taking a look at it, we would like to close the eyes and not looking at all! Sounds familiar?
Those Mondays mornings when you roll out of the bad in a bad mood and kids start asking ..where is my favorite t-shirt? when is the breakfast ready? I am hungry! wining.. and where is my doll? mom you promised this and you told me that and where is my mask, you did not wash it and we are late, mom, the water bottle and mom, the lunch box…and you are still in the bedroom…trying to figure things out…. No, not that kind of mornings! Let’s look at our best one, for once!
Let’s get back on track…now to the second part of it.
We are looking for a metaphor tool to have a first and easy assessment, we will go extravagant here! Ask yourself:
- What if I could put my life on sale, as I would do for a bar, a restaurant, a normal activity, an asset?
- Would there be someone interested in buying ‘my business, my life’ from me and why?
(It would be amazing to sell one part, the part that we like less (relationship, kids, job??) and keep the rest or maybe just exchange for once! Just kidding!)
These 2 simple questions could help you set a new perspective and see your life as a whole and as an asset.
Pretend that your life is a product or a service that could solve some needs, wants, frustrations but most of all inspire and give energy. It will give lots of value to the word and solve some problems, give some solutions.
It is an interesting perspective, isn’t it? So this is, for example, what you would like to offer:
- Service/Product relationship
- Service/Product kids
- Service/Product network
- Service/Product finance
- Service/Product believes
- Service/Product habits
- Service/Product health/food/sports
- Service/Product free time
- Service/Product household
- Service/Product organization
- Service/Product work
- Service/Product business
- …………..
Now, do these simple steps:
- Give a 1-10 evaluation for each of the ‘product’ you are selling, or if you prefer give them a color (red for the one you think they need lot of adjustment, orange for the one that need some adjustment, yellow for the one that are ok, and green for the super good!).
- Make a list of importance stating which one you would like to improve first.
- Choose the first one on the list
- Decide what you would like to achieve for that particular ‘product’…and set a strategy into action
- Do your first step today!
It looks very easy and I know it is not! There are so many things going on…but look at it as a dare. Take a look at your life in a different way, see it as your favorite coffee-shop or boutique and create it as perfect as you love to!
